Experience and Current Work
Dr. Ekland Abdiwahab is a social and cancer epidemiologist. Her research interests include the health effects of multilevel social stressors across the life course, cancer disparities, and the embodiment of stress among U.S. Black populations. Ekland is joining us from San Francisco State University, where she has been a postdoctoral scholar developing new skills in biobehavioral research focused on structural vulnerability, coping, and the cortisol awakening response among young adults. For the TRIM postdoc, she would like to better understand how social conditions in early life influence the epigenetic clock of Black women in midlife and how to develop a culturally tailored yoga and meditation intervention to build resilience against racism-based trauma.
