Clinical Specialties at the Osher Center
Experience
Dr. Janice Mao is a board-certified acupuncturist and holds a Doctorate and Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine. With a lifelong connection to integrative healthcare, she represents the third generation in her family to practice medicine. Following in the footsteps of her father, a Western-trained doctor, and her grandmother, a doctor of Chinese medicine, she was immersed in both medical traditions from an early age. Her upbringing included biomedicine, herbal medicine, acupuncture, and the philosophy of food as medicine, shaping her holistic approach to patient care.
Dr. Mao has extensive experience working in both inpatient and community-based settings since 2012, in addition to running her private practice before joining the Osher Center for Integrative Health. She has specialized training in:
- Women’s health (All stages from adolescence to menopause, including menstrual issues, endometriosis, PCOS, and preconception, prenatal, and postpartum care)
- Endocrine disorders
- Digestive disorders
- Autoimmune conditions
- Oncology support
- Insomnia
- Anxiety and stress disorders
With a focus on evidence-based integrative medicine, she combines acupuncture, herbal therapy, and lifestyle interventions to create personalized treatment plans that support both physical and emotional well-being. Outside of work, Dr. Mao enjoys time with her family and friends, being outdoors with the trees and ocean, working on art and design projects, and answering all of life’s big questions from her very inquisitive preteen daughter.
