Experience and Current Work
Gabriela is a rising 4th year medical student at UCSF with interests in integrative medicine and environmental health. She is currently working on research projects to understand how interpersonal trauma changes epigenetic age and whether yoga can serve as a monotherapy for depression. Over the 2024-2025 academic year, she will begin a gap year to do research at the Osher Center for Integrative Health and will complete the EaRTH Center's Environmental Scholars Program. Her work at the Osher Center focuses on piloting tools to systematically document intervention fidelity and adaptations of group medical visits designed for diverse patients in cancer treatment, as well as streamlining operations and scaling several other group medical visit programs. Her work with the EaRTH Center involves understanding how wildfire smoke can influence fertility and IVF outcomes. After her gap year, she plans to apply to either internal medicine or psychiatry residencies. She hopes to become a clinician-researcher, and to combine her interests in disparities research and integrative medicine to design clinics that can deliver integrative care affordably and at scale.
