Rana Rand, DO, is an integrative and osteopathic medicine physician who cares for individuals experiencing painful, chronic, and complex conditions. She specializes in hands-on manual therapies, balance training, and lifestyle and mind-body strategies.

Early in her career, Dr. Rand studied biochemistry and was on track to become a Doctor of Medicine (MD). In 2003, she attended a forum on integrative medicine at UCSF and popped into a talk by a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), who discussed using manual medicine to help people with asthma. “I raised my hand and asked a question about how to work with ribs and the muscles of the trunk, and something clicked for me, so I pivoted and went to DO school,” said Dr. Rand.

Dr. Rand brings a love of learning and genuine curiosity to her practice. As a generalist, she sees all types of patients and creates highly personalized care plans for each person. “My specialty is helping patients learn about their own body and what it needs, and together, we develop unique strategies to honor those needs,” says Dr. Rand.

Osteopathy and manual medicine can be useful therapies for preparing muscles and tissues to adapt to new situations, whether recovering from an injury or pregnancy, adjusting to aging, or improving posture. “What I do with my hands in the clinic is a starting point — I try to empower my patients to trust themselves and uncover the possibilities of what their bodies can do,” says Dr. Rand.

Balance is the most important piece of the puzzle. Dr. Rand teaches a simple 5-minute balance program to be practiced twice daily. No matter your age or ability, everyone can benefit from this program.

To make an appointment with Dr. Rand, ask your doctor for a referral.
