She serves as an Assistant Professor in Health Sciences in the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the Osher Center for Integrative Health. At the Osher Clinic at Mount Zion, she works closely with Dr. Shelley R. Adler and the interdisciplinary Osher Center team to deliver comprehensive, whole-person care.
Dr. Rand specializes in osteopathic manipulative medicine, neuromusculoskeletal medicine, medical acupuncture, and neurorehabilitation of balance disorders. Her clinical approach blends hands-on manual therapies with evidence-based integrative modalities, including gentle osteopathic manipulation, trigger point injections, acupuncture, balance training, and lifestyle and mind-body strategies. She is also board-certified in obesity medicine and incorporates nutrition and lifestyle interventions into individualized treatment plans. Dr. Rand emphasizes the least invasive approaches possible, focusing on restoring function, reducing pain, and empowering patients with self-healing strategies that support long-term wellness.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Rand is deeply committed to medical education. She teaches osteopathic manipulative medicine, medical acupuncture, and clinical obesity medicine and nutrition, and she is dedicated to mentoring trainees in integrative and rehabilitative approaches to musculoskeletal care. Her teaching philosophy centers on collaboration, communication, and cultivating physicians who are attentive to the interconnected physical, emotional, and lifestyle factors that influence health. She has also demonstrated a strong interest in health care quality improvement, patient safety, and optimization of medical and electronic medical systems, with a focus on strengthening team-based care.
Originally trained in biochemistry at the University of California, Davis, Dr. Rand brings a strong scientific foundation to her integrative clinical practice. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, spending time with her human and animal loved ones, and engaging in nourishing mind-body practices that reflect the holistic principles she brings to patient care.
