The SHINE Study: Supporting Health by Integrating Nutrition and Exercise

  • Are you overweight?
  • Do you eat when you're not hungry or when stressed?
  • Ready to make long-term lifestyle changes to lose weight?
SHINE

The UCSF SHINE study is seeking overweight adults to participate in a study that includes a novel 6-month weight loss program aimed at helping people make healthy diet and exercise lifestyle changes.

As a participant in the SHINE Study, you would:

  • Participate in a 16-session group-based weight loss and wellness program for 6 months
  • Meet individually with a dietitian
  • Receive a pedometer
  • Complete several assessment visits over 18 months
  • Get support in making long-term healthy lifestyle choices around diet and exercise to lose weight
  • Be compensated for study visits

 
You may be eligible if:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are overweight (BMI 30-45, BMI Calculator available online)
  • You do not have diabetes

Currently Enrolling:
We are currently enrolling for upcoming classes to be held on Thursday evenings starting February 23, 2012. Specific class dates:

  • Every Thursday evening, February 23 - May 10, 2012
  • Additional Thursday evenings: May 24, June 7 & 21, July 19, 2012
  • All day class: Sunday April 15, 2012

You must be available for the Thursday evening classes, as well as the Sunday class.
