are not affiliated with the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine and
as such inclusion in this listing does not imply an endorsement of the

HealthWorks
is a part of the H.M.
Fishbon Memorial Library located on the main floor of the hospital
at 1600 Divisadero Street, Room A116. At HealthWorks, patients and other
visitors have access to health information resources held in the H.M.
Fishbon Library at the UCSF Mount Zion campus as well as resources available
via the Internet. Hours of operation are Monday – Thursday from
8:30 am – 6:00 pm, and Friday from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
The HealthWorks
catalog contains holdings at the resource centers at UCSF’s
Mount Zion campus.

Medical Center Health Library
An online resource to supplement information your doctors, nurses and
pharmacists may provide. The Health Library includes a drug guide, a medical
dictionary and an online calendar of health events. There is also news
about research advances and treatments, patient education materials and

American Botanical
Council (ABC)
An independent, nonprofit, international organization providing information
about herbs and botanicals. ABC also publishes the journal HerbalGram,
with full text to selected articles.

Provides information on health, wellness, and alternative medicine.
Alternative
therapies in health and medicine (ATHM)
ATHM is is subscription-based, peer-reviewed journal. This site also has
listings of upcoming events and CME courses related to CAM and publishes
a free e-Newsletter.

Independent testing laboratory that evaluates consumer products including
herbs, vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements. Please note there
is a $24 per year subscription fee for full access.
International
Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS)
Access to scientific literature on vitamins, minerals and herbs.

Please note: There is a CAM subset, see "PubMed" instructions
below.
Natural Standard
Natural Standard provides up-to-date, evidence-based information on
herbs and supplements, conditions, alternative medicine modalities, and
patient information. Subscription information for their free e-Newsletter is available from their home page. Please note: There is a $99 per year subscription fee for full access to their database from non-UCSF computers. UCSF has a site license that provides free access from UCSF computers.
PubMed
(CAM subset)
There is a subset of the Medline database which provides access to CAM
citations. (Follow the link and choose LIMITS, then select the Complementary
Medicine subset). Citations related to herbs and dietary supplements are
not included in this subset and can be searched from the PubMed homepage.
Please Note: If you are searching PubMed from a UCSF computer, follow
this link
to search, as you will then be able to access databases and online materials
licensed to UCSF.
The Dietary Supplements Labels Database
The National Library of Medicine has released a new resource focused on dietary supplements. This database includes information from the labels of over 2,000 brands of dietary supplements in the marketplace, including vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, and other specialty supplements.
The database is designed to help both the general public and health care providers find information about ingredients in brand-name products, including name, form, active and inactive ingredients, amount of active ingredient/unit, manufacturer/distributor information, suggested dose, label claims, warnings, percentage of daily value, and further label information.
