Abrams, MD

Integrative Medicine Physician |
| Oncologist Donald I. Abrams, MD provides integrative
medicine consultations for patients living with and beyond cancer.
Professor of Clinical Medicine at UCSF, Dr. Abrams has practiced at
San Francisco General Hospital for more than 20 years and currently
is Chief of Hematology/Oncology. He is also a member of the UCSF Comprehensive
Cancer Center Executive Committee and is co-chairing development of
the Center's program in Symptom Management, Palliative Care and Survivorship.
He served as Assistant Director of the UCSF Positive Health Program
at San Francisco General Hospital and is chair of the Community Consortium,
an association of more than 200 primary care providers who treat Bay
Area patients with HIV. Dr. Abrams completed an associate fellowship
in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona and has completed
research in complementary and alternative therapies including mind-body
treatments, botanical therapies, medical use of marijuana, and Traditional
Chinese Medicine herbal therapies. |

Priscilla
Abercrombie, RN, NP, PhD
Women's Health Specialist |
Priscilla Abercrombie is a doctorally prepared nurse
practitioner and has specialized in women’s health for over 20 years.
In addition to being a women's health specialist at the Osher Center,
she works in the Pelvic Pain Clinic at the UCSF Women's Health Center,
and the women’s health center at San Francisco General Hospital.
Because of her many years of experience in women’s health and her
knowledge of integrative medicine, she is able to offer a whole
range of options for managing women’s health concerns. Priscilla
Abercrombie received both her Master's Degree, Women’s Health
Nurse Practitioner and Doctorate in Nursing from the University
of California San Francisco. She completed an Associate Fellowship
in Integrative Medicine from the Program in Integrative Medicine
at the University of Arizona, Tucson, a program developed by Dr.
Andrew Weil for physicians and nurse practitioners. She has conducted
women’s health research, written numerous articles for professional
journals and lectures nationally on women’s health related
topics.

| Joseph Acquah is a nationally recognized Diplomate in
Acupuncture (NCCAOM). He is the former Clinical Director and Internship
Coordinator for the California Acupuncture College. Joseph began practicing
acupuncture in 1981 and has taught at several colleges of Traditional
Chinese Medicine, most recently, the New England School of Acupuncture.
An expert in the art of Tai Chi Chuan, Joseph also has a master's
degree in clinical psychology. |

Nancy Bardacke, CNM, MA
Mindfulness-Based Childbirth & Parenting,

| Nancy Bardacke, CNM, MA is a Certified Nurse-Midwife,
mindfulness teacher and the founder of Mindfulness-Based Childbirth
and Parenting (MBCP). She began assisting families during pregnancy
and childbirth in 1971. A meditation practitioner since 1982 and mindfulness
teacher for more than a decade, she has now taught over 45 MBCP courses
and led over fifty workshops to several thousand expectant parents.
Ms. Bardacke has also taught numerous Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
courses for patients in hospital settings, as well as mindfulness
workshops and courses for perinatal health professionals locally and
nationally. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department
of Family Health Care Nursing at UCSF and currently leads the MBCP
program at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at UCSF. |

Kevin A. Barrows, MD

| Kevin Barrows, MD is an Assistant Clinical Professor
at UCSF and a graduate of the UCSF School of Medicine. He completed
his family practice residency and board certification in 1996 and
received board certification through the American Board of Holistic
Medicine in 2004. He has completed a two-year fellowship in integrative
medicine through the Program in Integrative Medicine at the University
of Arizona. Dr. Barrows' primary interest is mind-body medicine, with
a special focus on the application of mindfulness practice in health
care settings. He has been practicing mindfulness since 1991 and is
the founding Director of Mindfulness Programs at the Osher Center
for Integrative Medicine. |

Beverly Burns, MS, LAc
Acupuncturist |
Beverly Burns has been practicing Chinese medicine since 1991, specializing
in women's health and cancer. In addition, she helped to establish
the Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic in Oakland, a clinic for
low-income women with cancer, where she is Clinical Director. She
is also part of a multidisciplinary team participating in research
for women with breast cancer at the UCSF Cancer Center. |

Jnani Chapman, RN, CMT

| Jnani Chapman has been a yoga teacher since 1975 and
a massage/acupressure practitioner since 1986, specializing in helping
people with cancer, heart disease and chronic illness. She is a senior
staff member of the Commonweal Cancer Help Program in California and
the Smith Farm Cancer Help Program in Washington, DC. She was a stress
management specialist for UCSF / CPMC for the Breast Cancer Complementary
Support Program from 1997 to 2001, and for Dr. Dean Ornish's Program
for Reversing Heart Disease from 1987 to 1999. |

Teresa Corrigan, MA, RN,

Biofeedback Practitioner |
| Teresa Corrigan is a nurse with more than 20 years health
care experience and a nationally certified biofeedback trainer. She
has been teaching stress management and breathing therapies since
1988 in hospital and outpatient settings. She has been a student of
mindfulness since 1990, training with Jon Kabat-Zinn and others. She
also practices at the Clinical Institute for Behavioral Medicine.
She specializes in stress management, pre and post-operative surgery
preparation, cardiac health maintenance and meditation enhancement.
She is also a Meditation Instructor and Prepare for Surgery Instructor
at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. |

Marcia Degelman, CMT
Massage Therapist |
| Marcia Degelman has been a massage therapist for more
than 25 years. She provides both chair and therapeutic massage at
the Osher Center and is the massage therapist for the inpatient UCSF
pediatric oncology staff. She has 1,000 hours of training from The
Boulder School of Massage Therapy in Colorado. She incorporates many
styles of massage into her work including deep swedish, gentle shiatsu,
and orthobionomy, a system of muscle tension release through positioning.
She is also certified in pregnancy, labor and postpartum massage therapy,
and has been in private practice in San Francisco since 1980. |

Anand Dhruva, MD
Integrative Medicine Physician |
| Anand Dhruva, MD has always had an interest in non-traditional
approaches to health and healing. He completed his training in internal
medicine at Emory University in Atlanta and completed his hematology
and medical oncology fellowship at UCSF. Dr. Dhruva is on the Hematology-Oncology
faculty at San Francisco General Hospital, and is currently participating
in the distant-learning fellowship Program in Integrative Medicine
from the University of Arizona. He also has a particular interest
in Ayurvedic medicine and attended the 2006 World Ayurveda Congress
in India. As a practicing medical oncologist, Dr. Dhruva is well acquainted
with the standard approaches to cancer and the concerns of patients
with cancer. He has been working closely with Donald Abrams, MD, Director
of Clinical Programs at the Osher Center, in the new modality of Integrative
Oncology. The goals of his practice are to integrate safe and effective
complementary healing approaches into standard cancer care and survivorship.
Dr. Dhruva’s practice is open to adults living with or beyond
a diagnosis of cancer. |

Heidi Engel, PT
Personal Fitness Trainer

| Heidi Engel, PT has worked for the University of California
San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF) as a physical therapist since
1988. She is the only physical therapist at UCSF to have treated patients
in every part of the Medical Center except for the neonatal intensive
care unit. The services she has traveled to at UCSF include all six
intensive care units, the emergency room, the recovery room, the psychiatric
hospital, all medicine, oncology, surgery, cardiothoracic, neurosurgery,
sports medicine, orthopedic, and other outpatient services. She has
worked in private practice settings in San Francisco ranging from
a one patient per hour Pilate's studio, to a one patient every 10
to 20 minutes sports medicine clinic. Currently, she supplements her
inpatient acute work at UCSF with private home based clients, and
sees outpatients at the physical therapy practice of the Osher Center
for Integrative Medicine. Heidi is an active member of the Bay Area
Home birth Collective, working with midwives. All three of her children
were born at home. |

Charlie Johnson
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Instructor

| Charlie Johnson has been practicing meditation and
yoga since 1972 and has been teaching for more than ten years.
He has completed training with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and others.
In addition he has completed the MBSR Teacher Development Intensive.
He is associated with the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre,
California and has completed their meditation instructor-training
program. Charlie is a certified yoga instructor, a member of
the California Yoga Teachers Association and is registered with the
Yoga Alliance. |

| Bonnie O'Brien Jonsson, MS, is a long-term practitioner
of mindfulness meditation and has worked in hospitals since 1977.
She has completed professional training in Mindfulness Based Stress
Reduction with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and through Spirit Rock Meditation
Center. She has been leading groups in mindful living and dying since
1994 and teaches meditation in prison and in other venues in the Bay
Area. |

Naomi Lam, MD
Integrative Psychiatrist

| Naomi Lam, MD is an Assistant Clinical Professor at
UCSF and has had a longstanding interest in integrative medicine and
Eastern healing practices. She graduated from Tufts University School
of Medicine, completed a psychiatry residency at UCSF, and recently
received her certification in medical acupuncture. Currently, Dr.
Lam is participating in the distant-learning fellowship Program in
Integrative Medicine from the University of Arizona. Dr. Lam's practice
is guided by an openness toward Eastern healing practices and by the
patient's individual sense of his or her own spirituality. Drawing
upon her training in transpersonal psychology and medical acupuncture,
she creates a safe place for patients to explore their psychological
issues and find a greater sense of peace and well being. Dr. Lam's
practice is open to those wishing to explore integrative approaches
to mental health concerns. |

Paula Koepke, MA, CMT
Massage Therapist

Paula Koepke has been a massage therapist since 1981
and has a masters degree in somatic psychology. She has expertise
in working with post-traumatic stress as well as considerable experience
with chronic illness, cancer, and accident recovery. She has taught
at Antioch University San Francisco, New College of California,
Holy Names College in Oakland, and currently at the McKinnon Massage
Institute of Oakland. In her sessions she typically integrates modalities
such as Craniosacral, Counterstrain and Asian pressure point therapies
into a Swedish or Deep Tissue framework. |

Wolf Eberhard Mehling, MD
Integrative Medicine Physician |
| Dr. Wolf Mehling is an Assistant Clinical Professor
in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UCSF. He is
a graduate of Hamburg University in Germany. For 12 years, he was
in private practice in Germany, before moving to the US and repeating
his family practice residency. He has studied manual therapy, psychotherapy,
and various techniques of "bodywork," such as breath therapy
(dissertation in Berlin), feldenkrais, yoga, massage, and rolfing.
He has also instructed German physicians and physical therapists since
the early 90's. |

Rick McKinney, MD
Integrative Medicine Physician |
Rick McKinney, MD is a board certified physician
in Holistic Medicine and Family Practice. He has worked as a family
physician for twenty-five years and is an Assistant Clinical Professor
at UCSF. Dr. McKinney offers a holistic practice that combines his
expertise in conventional medicine and his familiarity with a wide
range of complementary modalities.
Dr. McKinney enjoys working with his patients to uncover their
own paths, collaboratively designing individualized treatment plans,
coordinating care, and supporting each person on his or her way
to health. He offers an integrative approach to medical care
with an appreciation of each person's unique healing journey. Dr.
McKinney’s practice is open to adults with a variety of chronic
medical conditions. |

Tracy Peng, MD
Integrative Psychiatrist |
Dr. Tracy Peng is a Clinical Instructor in the Department
of Psychiatry at UCSF. She graduated from the Keck School of Medicine
at the University of Southern California and completed a psychiatry
residency at California Pacific Medical Center. She is also a graduate
of the Zen Hospice Project End-of-Life Counselor Training program.
She has a special interest in using mindfulness approaches in psychotherapy
and also herbal and Western medications to treat anxiety and depression.
She also specializes in providing spiritually focused psychotherapy
to women with cancer. |

Sudha Prathikanti, MD
Integrative Psychiatrist |
| Dr. Sudha Prathikanti is Associate Clinical Professor
in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF and Director of Behavioral
Medicine for the SFGH Primary Care Medicine Program. After graduating
from the University of Michigan Medical School, she completed a psychiatric
residency and fellowship at UCSF. She is a Diplomate of the American
Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has advanced clinical training
and expertise in Consultation Psychiatry. Dr. Prathikanti combines
conventional medicine with Ayurveda, yoga, herbs and Jungian symbology
to promote psychological health. |

Brook Stone, MSW, LCSW
Psychotherapist |
| Brook Stone is a graduate of Smith College, School for
Social Work. She is a psychotherapist, and has been a student of mindfulness
meditation for more than 25 years, having studied with Jon Kabat-Zinn
and many other teachers over the years. Brook has also worked extensively
with people with cancer, utilizing meditation, guided imagery, and
support groups. |

Miria M. Toveg, MS, LAc, has been practicing Traditional
Chinese Medicine since 1993 and has special expertise in women’s
health, post-traumatic stress disorder, and pain management, and
back injury. She strongly believes in empowering people with a variety
of options to make the best possible decisions for a holistic approach
to their own health care. Toveg co-founded The Lotus Center, a private
holistic health clinic in San Francisco, and is also an acupuncturist
at the Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic, which provides alternative
therapies to low-income women with cancer. |

Domonick received training in MBSR from Jon Kabat-Zinn
and other senior teachers at the University of Massachusetts Medical
Center. He has been practicing mindfulness for 5 years and
teaching mindfulness classes for 2 years. He is also a licensed
massage therapist (LMT) and registered yoga teacher (RYT).Formerly
a research neuroscientist, Domonick conducted neuroimaging research
focused on the aging brain, as a Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience
at Columbia University. |
